Intro to Lapidary

Turn a rock you found into a stone you'd wear.

This class is only about stone. No metal, no soldering, just cutting and polishing until a dull lump turns into something with depth in it. If you have a shelf of rocks you've been meaning to do something with, this is that.

What you'll learn

• Which rocks will actually cut well, and which will break your heart
• Using the saws to get clean slabs out of rough material
• Shaping a flat slab into a domed cabochon
• Polishing through the grits to a real shine
• Reading a stone to find the best part of it

Do I need experience? None. This is a fun one to take with a friend or your kid, and we cap it at three people.

What it costs $5 to $10 depending on materials. Bring your own rocks, apple-sized or smaller, or buy from our selection.

What you take home One or two finished cabochons, ready to set. Pair it with a metalsmithing class later and set them yourself.
