Prongs let light through and keep the piece light. They also handle odd shapes that a bezel would fight you on, which makes them the right answer for a lot of stones and found objects.

What you'll learn

• Building and soldering a prong frame from wire
• Getting prongs even and level, which is the whole game
• Setting a flat-back cabochon so it's genuinely secure
• Finishing the piece as a ring or a pendant

Do I need experience? Yes. You must be comfortable soldering. Soldering fine wire is fiddly, and this class is challenging in a good way.
