Sand Casting Jewelry Making Class

In this 3-hour jewelry-making class, you'll learn all the basics of sand casting — from creating a mold out of red clay to packing the metal frame and melting metal scraps to cast your own unique pieces.

Skills:

• Create a mold out of clay
• Properly pack and vent the metal frame
• Cast using an oxygen/propane torch
• Upcycle metal scraps and turn them into creative works of art
• Finish and clean your cast pieces

Prerequisites:

• No experience necessary! Bring several small items (smaller than 2" in diameter) to use as impressions for your castings. Note: if casting existing jewelry like a ring band, make sure it is not too elaborate and has no undercuts.

Class Kit Cost:

• Finished pieces will be weighed and charged according to the type of metal used. Silver and bronze are readily available at the studio.

Safety Tips: Please wear your hair back, closed-toed shoes, and no flowing sleeves. Bring safety glasses if you prefer your own, and a water bottle is recommended.
